As an art appraiser I give clients peace of mind regarding valuations of art objects they own, wish to acquire or sell. These objects can have significant attachments for their owners so a proper appraisal is critical to helping them make the best-informed decision.
My work advising clients on buying fine art is pure joy: learning which elements of fine art and design my clients enjoy living with and helping them acquire beautiful things creates lasting friendships and bonds that go beyond the object itself. There is a lot of high quality, distinctive and beautiful art at every price point to cover a wide range of tastes. It’s a pleasure for me to match clients up with pieces that truly matter to them.
My passion is representational art, furniture design, fine art glass of the Americas and Europe starting from the late 19th century through the present, and books. The depth and breadth of works for this period is substantial in terms of quality and variety and resonates with collectors from the most diverse backgrounds and walks of life. My initial work involved the organization and appraisal of an extensive estate of European and American mid century art. The estate included over five hundred pieces of fine art, several hundred rare books and manuscripts, and seventy items including unique furniture and lighting.
I grew up in New York City and and started my life long love of art. I was fortunate to have the privilege of growing up in a place where the best museums and libraries were relatively accessible to all. I attended Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx, and I graduated from the University of Chicago with a major in English language and literature, a minor in math and graduate courses in math. I have a certificate for continuing education, foundation courses and special courses in art, including courses in art history, criticism, and conservation from the University of Oxford.
About eleven years ago, I started representing estates and artists at art fairs and through my virtual online gallery. This includes writing catalogue raisonné and corresponding Wikipedia entries for artists works. As these works are copyrighted I can show them in response to personal inquiries.
I appraise art and advise on purchases and sales, and I curate and exhibit fine art at major art fairs during Art Basel and in Palm Beach, on behalf of the collections of estates I manage. I also give talks on subjects such as plein air painting.
